Designing your own kitchen can present a whole lot of challenges, but when you’re a keen new developer with a young family, getting your colours right is just the beginning.
Squeezed between Warrandyte and Eltham, a whole lot of trees and Victoria’s inspiring country landscape is Research. Offering plenty of opportunity for today’s renovators, developers and designers to transform aging and unloved properties, the area was also known as something of a testing ground for 20th century architects and builders, with Australian modernism and mid-century buildings scattered in amongst the bush landscape.

Having recently purchased a new home in Research to renovate and live in, Taeler Jordan, a trained architect and new developer recognised the potential in her tree-lined property. But with two young kids, a dated kitchen and a blossoming career she needed to do something with the interior spaces to make it both functional and a representation of her work.

Approaching Haven Kitchens with her plans and ideas, Taeler says, “I had a very clear design vision for my kitchen, we have two young kids, and the small kitchen wasn’t going to cut it.”

“I visited the Haven showroom and I fell in love with the beautiful Green Slate cabinetry and had to use it,” exclaims Taeler, “so, I redesigned the whole kitchen; benchtop, paint colours, handles, everything.”
Haven Kitchen’s design and build preassembled kitchen cabinets, only selling to trades directly so your kitchen (and laundry in this case) is expertly fitted and finished. It’s a peace of mind that Taeler was after and knowing that they could deliver on her designs and timeline added to the attraction.
Appropriately named Gumtree House, the colours and tones she has finished her home in perfectly reflect the landscape she looks out on every morning. Having chosen Green Slate in Clovelly Super Matte from Haven Kitchen’s range of products, her concept of bringing the outside in was made complete by the earthy, riverbank tones of the terrazzo benchtops and clay of the walls. The small stones, flecks and inclusions subversively adding to the feelings of the outdoors.
